What a year 2015 has been for Incarace Motorsport.
It started on New Year’s Day at Birmingham Wheels Raceway where racing commenced at 2pm, making it the first motorsport event in the UK of 2015. We moved to the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre from Thursday 8th – Sunday 11th January for the Autosport International Show where we had 26 race cars in our static display near our stand and 53 Incarace formula cars racing in the Live Action Arena.
We were also racing at Hednesford Hills Raceway on Sunday 11th January for Civil War 16, where the Southern Army demolished the Northerners with a final score of 2025 points, compared the Northern Army’s 1125. Who will be victorious next year?
Other big meetings of the year included the Heartbreaker at Northampton International Raceway, The iconic Thunder in the Hills featuring the BriSCA Formula One Stock Cars’ annual visit to Europe’s fastest quarter-mile oval, the annual Caravan Grand Prix, the 2 Litre National Banger World Championship, also at Hednesford where 82 Tom Foster was victorious.
Then on Saturday 30th May it was the British Championship Triple Header at Northampton where 217 Lee Fairhurst took the crown for the BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars, 180 Courtney Witts for the National Ministox and 1 Kev Stuchbury for the V8 Hot Stox.
The Bill Morris Memorial Veterans Day was once again a huge success with racing drivers of yesteryear returning to Hednesford for one more crash around the raceway.
The European Weekend at Northampton International Raceway was again a specular event with 84 Tom Harris being crowned 2015 BriSCA F1 European Champion, 101 Kelvyn Marshall as BriSCA F2 European Champion and 170 Craig Thompson winning the Rebel Racers European, with his brother, 1 Steve Thompson taking a close second.
Hednesford Hills Raceway’s National Weekend was an amazing affair for all that attended. In Friday’s Practice Sessions, a greatly prepared racing surface and perfect weather caused the National Hot Rod’s lap times to tumble – right down to a 13.867 set by 940 Gary Woolsey, who then also went on to take the National Championship and NHRPA Championship on the Sunday. 944 Derek McMillan took the National title for the Stock Rods, along with 51 Andy King for the Lightning Rods.
318 Rob Speak took the BriSCA Formula One Stock Car Semi Final at Birmingham Wheels Raceway on Saturday 22nd August after a superb race.
Undoubtedly, the biggest meeting of the year at Incarace was the Double World Final Weekend on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September. The big crash we all expected never happened, but it was an incredible event nonetheless! 101 Kelvyn Marshall took the Gold Roof for the BriSCA Formula 2 Stock Cars along with 129 Will Morphey for the 1300 Stock Cars.
The World Masters was also the host meeting to the Rebel Racers’ World Wide Rebellion where 1 Steve Thompson retained his Gold fin. 388 Paul Ford was World Masters Champion for the BriSCA Formula One Stock Cars whilst H124 Wim Peeters took the BriSCA Formula Two Stock Car World Masters title.
The Pre-79 Crash Cavalcade was a roaring success with classic cars being raced to destruction before being sent to the scrapyard in the sky in 3 brilliant Demolition Derbies! It was good to see the staff, drivers and even spectators joining in with the fun by dressing to match the occasion. Next year the meeting returns as the Pre-85 Crash Cavalcade after having discussions between the Crash Cavalcade Committee and drivers.
Hednesford Hills Raceway’s season was ended in style with one of the biggest fireworks displays in the Midlands setting the skies alight and the sight of the National Hot Rods under floodlights at the venue never fails to impress me.
A series that is forever growing in stature and entertainment is the I Factor Fast & Furious Series. Each round gathers over 100 cars and hosts at least 21 races making for a brilliant night of non-stop racing. If you have never attended an I Factor event, I would urge you to give them a go.
The weather played tricks on us for the BriSCA Gala Night with rain stopping just moments before start time. 212 Danny Wainman took the BriSCA Formula One Under 25’s Championship, the Diamond Jubilee race went to 217 Lee Fairhurst whilst the Gala Night Final went to 4 Dan Johnson.
The 2015 season was topped off with an eventful Champion of Champions event, where the main race was the highlight of the event, which was eventually won by 331 Jason Jackson.
My personal thanks go out to the members of Event Staff, racing drivers, partners, sponsors, spectators and supporters who have all made the 2015 Incarace season the success it has been. Without you all it would not be possible to run all the events that we do.
Thank you for being with us throughout the year.
