The 2016 Spedeweekend is fast approaching as it is hard to believe that we are less than five months away from Foxhall Heath Stadium, Ipswich’s premier weekend of motorsport!
The 2016 Spedeweekend brings with it the return of the triple header world finals which last took place in 2010. Headlining the event as is tradition will be the National Hot Rod World Championship! This year however, the National Hot Rods are not the only drivers racing for their World Championship. The 2.0 Hot Rods & Lightning Rods are also competing for their respective World Championships and when you also add into the mix even more prestigious championships including the Stock Rod European Championship and the returning Classic Hot Rod National Championship with the Classic’s making their second consecutive appearance at Spedeweekend as a formula rather than a demonstration it will be a weekend to remember.
But that’s not all!!!
The Superstox are competing for their National Championship again following a dramatic National Championship race for the formula to round off the weekends on track action last year. The 1300cc Stock Cars race for the British Championship and this year the Historic Stock Cars will be racing for the Bob Studd Trophy after their successful 2015 return to the two day spectacular.
Returning for 2016 are the National Bangers in a 4-a-side Micro Madness Team event on the Saturday. The drivers will be smashing and crashing their way around the Foxhall Heath oval trying their best to be the winning team at the end of the night!
Finally, they started as a one off gimmick a couple of years ago as a reward for supporting Aldershot Raceway but are now a full time formula included on the Spedeweekend schedule. We are of course welcoming the return of the superb Ninja Karts!!
These youngsters are used to racing around the ovals at Aldershot Raceway or Birmingham Wheels Raceway but once a year the Ninja Kart stars come to Foxhall Heath Stadium and take on the challenge of the Ipswich ¼ mile! Fantastic to watch – not to be missed!
In addition to all the racing action of the weekend which starts at 12 noon both days, entertainment commences at 9.30am on both days. On the Saturday the stadium roars into life with the weekend introduction followed by the practice sessions and the National Hot Rod Lap Times. On Sunday the Wacky Races will return but the details are a closely guarded secret of our promotions team. What have they come up with this year????
