Well done to Dan Santry Ministox 268 for winning the ORCi Ministox Championship at Hednesford Hills Raceway on Easter Monday.
A massive entry of 42 cars from all over the UK contested hard fought battles all afternoon, with three qualifying heats and a pulsating Championship Final that saw the 268 car take the Championship by one of the smallest margins in history (0.02 secs)as the photograph proves.
Heat one saw a relatively easy victory for Dan from 674 Stephen Burgoyne from Scotland in 2nd and Incarace's 207 Cameron Lawrence from Devon who had recovered quickly from a roll over in his last race at St Day Cornwall less than 24 hours before.
Santry made it two out of two with a heat two win, just ahead of 220 Luke Dorling with Stephen Burgoyne on the podium again, this time in third place.
We were of course to have a different winner in Heat 3, where Cameron Lawrence delivered the goods ahead of Arena based David Shearing 564 and Incarace registered Steph Sore 266.
So all was set for a cracking Championship final and having won both of his qualifying heats, all looked set for an easy win for Daniel from pole position, but after an early lead this wasn’t to be the case as his nearest rival 220 Luke Dorling proved he was very much a match for the Cambridgeshire driver and in fact stole the lead away from Daniel during the closing laps of the 20 laps Champsionship race. It was a see-saw battle between those top two with Burgoyne lurking not far behind, but going into the last lap it looked like Dan would easily take the win - Dorling had other ideas and following a last bend tussle he made a valiant effort around the faster outside line through a narrowing gap as Santry respectfully did his best to avoid defeat at the very last moment.
A fantastic and fitting end to a brilliant day of racing from all concerned- Santry was beside himself with the win - Dorling was superb in his narrow loss and Stephen Burgoyne happy to be on the podium.
Well done to everyone who supported the meeting.
