It takes lots of people doing many different jobs to make every race meeting possible at Incarace. We’ve listed some of the roles below along with their responsibilities.
RACE DIRECTOR – the Race Director is in overall control of everything that happens at the race meeting and has overall responsibility for the racing related Health and Safety at an event.
STEWARD – the Steward can be found in Race Control. The Steward calls for flags to be displayed and decides on punishments, along with the Race Director for racing rule infringements.
CLERK OF THE COURSE – Incarace Clerks of the Course act as the Steward’s right-hand men. They control the race marshals, and are in overall charge in the event of a racing incident, such as a crash.
MARSHAL – there is more to being a Marshal than simply waving flags. Our Marshals ensure that the racing surface is at its utmost perfection and that oil spillages or debris are cleared up before the next race.
RECOVERY DRIVER – if there is a crash on the motorway, the standard protocol is to cone off the area and stare at it for 2 hours. At Incarace, if a race car breaks down, it is up to the Recovery Drivers to remove the vehicle off the track swiftly so we can get back to racing as
soon as possible.
SCRUTINEER – our Scrutineers ensure that every race car is safe to race and also perform post-race scrutineering on selected cars to check that they conform to the construction rules.
PIT MARSHAL – the Pit Marshal is one of the most important people at any race meeting, yet they are rarely seen. They are the people that ensure all the cars are ready to race and are on track at the right time.
LAP SCORER – the Lap Scorer marks down each car in the order that they pass the start/finish line in each lap.
TRANSPONDER OPERATOR – the Transponder Operator controls the electronic timing system that times each car on each lap. Not all formulas run on this system.
COMMENTATOR – the Race Commentator is the person’s voice that you commonly hear over our PA system, keeping you updated on the happenings on-track throughout the day.
