It is with great sadness that the BriSCA community learns of the passing of one of the sports genuine characters in inspirators, Dave Leonard.
There are few in the sport that will not know Dave, his greatest achievement being the introduction of the Under 25’s Championship which became his baby and year after year he tirelessly shook peoples pockets to raise sponsorship for the drivers and the race. Indeed I believe 2015 raised the greatest sum yet.
As a Painter and Decorator, Dave was a generous man and several drivers have been assisted with individual sponsorship over the years.
As a fan, he was always looking at ways he could contribute to drivers and with the Under 25’s Championship harnessed a realization of just how much young talent we have in the sport, sought to inspire and reward them to the point this became in it’s own way a special Championship.
He enjoyed a colourful period in BriSCA F2 before then concentrating on Liam in National Ministox.
Dave along with Debs were the life soul of ‘get togethers’ prone to jokes and the odd sarcastic wit which endeared him to the many people he touched in the sport.
The sport has lost a ‘super fan’ who walked the walk with passion and will be sadly missed by the whole community.
One special Incarace link with Dave is that it was his proposal to somehow organise two youngsters to take to the Starters rostrum to start the Under 25's in 2010. Mat Goring and James Sheard are now accomplished Start Marshals.
We extend our thoughts to Deb and Liam and all Dave’s family and huge number of friends at this extremely sad and difficult time.
