Forget Poland and Ukraine...the REAL Euro 2012 is at Northampton!!
Over 150 cars descend on Northampton International Raceway on July 14/15 for the annual European Stock Car Championships – the Brafield raceway’s... biggest weekend of the year. Saturday’s Racing commences at 4.45pm and Sunday get under way with the 3 European Championship races at 12noon.
This ultimate short oval party weekend sees three of the UK’s leading Stock Car formulas in action, the thunder of the BriSCA F1s joined by the roar of the F2s and the buzz of the small but ever spectacular Rebels.
Last year 150 Mick Sworder surprised many by taking the F1 title in his first season in the sport since moving from F2s, and his form so far in 2012 suggests he will be among the favourites again this time around. 84 Tom Harris heads the National Points table and will also start as a favourite, but the F1 Euro has a habit of producing unexpected winners – will past winners 464 Luke Davidson and 4 Dan Johnson feature, or will another totally unexpected name top the pile in 2012? Daz Kitson is booked in as well so safe to say we can expect some fireworks!!
401 Barry Goldin defends the F2 title but this is one formula where anyone can win at NIR – as this year’s results so far will show! 445 Nigel Green and 886 Chris Bradbury are the track specialists, but unfortunately, Green is a late cancellation due to work commitments. The Scottish contingent headed by 7 Gordon Moodie, 647 Chris Burgoyne and new British champ 795 Alan Kirkaldy can never be discounted. The Dutch entry should be headed up by former World Masters winner H124 Wim Peeters and lady driver H71 Milou Mets while other favourites will include 700 Adam Rubery, the Green brothers, World Champion 871 Mark Simpson, UK Open winner 341 Drew Lammas...the list goes on!
The Rebels have been dominated this year by reigning European champion 656 Adam Joyce, but 41 Ali Topley, 25 Anthony Masters and 385 Steve Thompson have shown he does have a few chinks in his armour. 270 James Watson and 22 Ryan Jones have been the best of the newcomers, but with 'retired' World Champion 1 Steve Shaw making a one-off comeback, could a surprise result be in store?
Sunday’s racing will have extra significance as the meeting Finals will be for the Internations Cup racing for the Bev Greenhalf Trophy, in honour of the voice of BriSCA and Brafield. A wonderful addition to this very special weekend of racing.
