INCAROD regular 214 Graeme Clarke took the biggest title of his career on Sunday as he took the Incahots Racequip Series Championship at Hednesford.
With a sizeable prize pot put up by sponsors Racequip the three meetings attracted large grids of Incarods and Hot Fords, and several new faces to Hednesford were present on a sunny Sunday for round three including 89 Dave Smith on his racing debut. Heat one was stopped when 312 Richard Jackson hit the spun 173 Steve Knight head-on ending both their days early while 17 Jason Hartshorne pulled away in front on the restart to win it but he was docked places in heat two for spinning 38 Jon Cooper who was collected head-on by 43 Mark Neale. At the same moment 85 Simon Cox’s smart Peugeot tangled with 17 Richard Cotton and they crashed into the infield tyres, Cotton the only one to repair for the Final. Comeback man 9 Scott Warner marked his first meeting in some time with the win in his smart Escort before the cars lined up in points order from the eight previous races for the decider.
Clarke and 4 Gage Ford had the front row for the title decider and the former led off but the AXs of 51 Dean Brown and Hartshorne soon sprinted past the Escorts of Ford and 7 Lee Clark with Brown using the outside line to good effect to take the lead. Backmarker traffic played a major part but Brown was able to pick his way through without major problems to win with Clarke having to settle for third behind Warner, but the win for Brown was only enough for fourth in the overall standings with Clarke taking the crown from Ford and Clark, the trophies presented by Racequip’s Pete Gould.
Congratulations to Graeme – who could still add the Incarod points and I Factor titles to his roster this season.
