THE QUALIFYING rounds for the Man of the Midlands Championship took place at Birmingham last Saturday with around 30 Bangers competing, including Mendips Raceway visitor 309 Chris Parry and a large raiding party from Trent Raceway.
The racing however was all about one man – 290 Ryan Davies. The former 2 Litre World Champion has been the dominant force in 2012 in his rapid Honda Civics, and in the opening heat he spun 27 Wayne Bacon into the wall on the last bend to take the win before dominating heat two from the second row and making it a hat-trick in heat three after catching 118 Jay Anslow. Davies took a maximum score and will take pole position for the big race at Hednesford, former Hot Ford man 130 Scott Fulham qualifying alongside him with Anslow and 299 Dale Locker filling the second row. Much of the crash action on qualifying night was provided by silver top 471 Trevor Perry who was hitting everything in sight but still did enough to qualify on row three alongside 792 Paul Davies.
999 Scott Hill will look for his third straight Man of the Midlands title if he races at Hednesford on Sunday, but he did not appear on qualifying night so may have his work cut out from towards the back of the grid.
