THE 2013 season exploded into life at Birmingham Wheels Raceway on Saturday 2nd March with the feature event the first round of the March Speedweeks series for BriSCA F2s.
The F2 entry saw a galaxy of stars entered including track champion 445 Nigel Green, World Champion 1 Micky Brennan on the debut of his stunning new car, returnee 657 Neal Smith and silver top 7 Gordon Moodie who was part of a five-strong Scottish entry. There was a surprise in heat one as 3 Liam Rennie led all the way for his first ever F2 win before Moodie took over and won the second heat and Final, stuffing Smith and 352 Dave Sansom on the way. Green took second ahead of 921 Jack Aldridge before 101 Kelvyn Whalley took the GN.
A sizeable field of Bangers saw plenty of scrapping between Team BS Motors, Team Fatman and the Scrapyard Screamers with the Davies family joining in for good measure although engine trouble blighted points champion 792 Paul Davies’s meeting. Buxton visitor 152 Dan Rigby led home the first heat before heat two was stopped when 474 Tina Ireson rolled, 331 Bryn Starr racing to the win on the restart. Starr battled 96 Wayne Davies in the Final with 267 Martin French nailing him in turn as 290 Ryan Davies notched up another Birmingham final win, 199 Jacob Roff and Rigby next.
The Rebels began their season with 22 Ryan Jones winning both heats after catching impressive white top 309 Dave Baker in the closing laps each time, but a stoppage in the Feature for the stranded 25 Anthony Masters closed the field up and Jones ran wide letting 170 Craig Thompson through for his maiden Feature win. 656 Adam Joyce had a rough night early on but he followed up third in the Feature by winning the GN.
The Ministox field included a quintet of debutants who all performed excellently, while up front 274 Kieran O’Reilly raced to the win in heat one but got caught up in a tangle early in heat two as Autospeed visitor 977 Kieren Bradford took the spoils. O’Reilly made it a double with a dominant drive in the Final, the yellow top leading home Spedeworth visitor 119 Harry Steward with 297 Jack Bradburn taking his third trophy of the night in third.
