THE SNOW FINALLY GOES AWAY - Added 09/04/2013

Easter finally happened at Hednesford Raceway on Sunday, albeit 6 days later than planned, due of course to the delights of a snow bound track.

Most of the snow had disappeared on Sunday, but it was clear to see just how bad it had been in places, in and around the track.

The Ministox got the meeting off to a fitting start with some excellent close action, but it was current Points champion Ryan Polley that came through for the win and it looked ominous for the other competitors as his new car took to the big track for the first time, performing really well. Ryan took a very close heat two from Harry Steward, but both of the front runners were docked 2 places for a jumped restart, leaving Bham Final winner Kieran O'Reilly to take the win, from birthday boy Jack Bradburn and the demoted Polley in third. The Polley/Steward duo made light work in the early stages of the final and battled well with O'Reilly - a cracking race with a very close finish, which for the records read Polley/O'Reily/Steward.

The MASCARS took to the track for their first outing of the year and provided top class, side by side racing action all day. Mark Cranwell (65) showed his liking for the wide sweeping bends of Hednesford and won with a master display. Robin (25) and Lawrence Bath (24) took the minor podium places. Heat 2 was an even closer affair, with Lawrence taking the flag from Robin this time and Oval Track Legend convert Martin Lamb (52) a creditable 3rd, just pipping the 65 car on the line who proved in this one that the outside line doesn't always work! The Final gave us our third MASCAR race winner of the day, with Robin Bath taking the spoils ahead of a superb debut 2nd place from Martin Lamb who demoted Mark Carnwell at the chequered after a closing lap battle for the line.

Lightning Rods were out, as with the MASCARS, for the first time for 2013 as 2 meetings had been cancelled due to weather. It would be very harsh to say that the drivers were in self-destruct mode, but there seemed to be an awful lot of damage throughout the day, all of which seemed to be down to accidental contact or loss of control. Gavin Evans (63) and Mark Cooper Jnr (22) came together on turn 2 and ended their day early on, but it was a Champion's display from Frankie Cunningham (87) that took the honours, a feat that he repeated in Heat 2 after yet another coming together of cars, this time rendering Jordan Spavins (3) and Daniel King (24) as non runners for the remainder of the day. New boy Jack Goodier (99) belied his tender age with some good driving and top 10 finishes in all races. It had to be a hat trick for Frankie to round his day off, but a slight mistake as early as lap one with the 87 car just clipping the fence, broke the front suspension and he became yet another casualty. Richard Warner (411) took the honours, with fellow visitor Neil Wallington (781) second from Phil Manning Jnr (28) in third. It was great to see a good field of cars on track and hopefully they will all be repaired for their next outing.

The National Big Van Bangers didn't disappoint either! Seven vans took to the track with the best Presented prize going to Johnny Mac (70).

It is fair to say that Scott Hill dominated proceedings in Heat 1 with a flying machine, removing everything that came in his way - it was an easy task to choose the entertainer in that one. Heat two took on a different guise with the quirky '2nd is 1st' race and Hill was at his very best again. He took the lead late on, did a 360 just before the chequered flag, let 2nd place pass and then promptly crossed the line in 2nd to take the win! Who else could be the entertainer in that one? Scott didn't however do the hat trick! Following a rollover from Final Entertainer Chris Brindley (660), the restarted race was won by Chris Cullum (132), with the Demolition Derby going to Grant Doe (181) from Chris Cullum. Stuart Mears (15) as nominated at the Most Destructed.

An excellent meeting overall - Easter is now officially over
