Congratulations to National Banger star 294 Lee 'Stuntman' Hughes who won the World Final Wild Card at Banger World Series Round 3 at Pr1mo Northampton International Raceway on Sunday.
A strong field of over 50 cars competed for the single World Final grid place available, with the opening heats going to Lee and to 67 Rickie Beasley. In the all-important draw for the Wild Card race, Hughes drew the front row and Beasley the back. Hughes got off to a flying start but was soon realed in and overtaken by Incarace star 601 Lee 'Usha' Usher who opened up a big lead.
Usha had not accounted for Lee's brother 27 Dale Hughes though, who showed excellent observation to slow Usha down on the last lap by getting in his way, holding him up long enough for Lee Hughes to get by right on the line to take the win and the place at Ipswich's big race in October!
The Showdown was a McPhilimey family benefit with 425 Neil McPhilimey taking the win and the £200 prize, with brother 427 Dean McPhilimey in 2nd!
The meeting provided more of the excellent racing and crashing the BWS has provided so far this year, and our thanks again go out to all the drivers and their teams for all their hard work as well as the significant time and money which goes into building these cars!
Round 4 of the BWS is at Birmingham Wheels on Saturday 25th May!
Thanks to Alex Catley for the photos!
