A fantastic booking list of 30 cars for the final Oval Track Legends meeting of 2013 at Birmingham Wheels, this Saturday has posed a little bit of a dilemma as to the format of the racing, bearing in mind that the meeting also stages the Annual Whites & Yellows Championship race, which is open to any driver that has held white or yellow status in the 2013 season.
With National Hot Rods, Rebels and BriSCA F2 Stock Cars also on the bill, it wouldn’t be easy to run five Legend races (W & Y, 3 x 2/rd Heats plus the final), but following some deep thought we have come up with the perfect solution.
We will be running a 2/3rds heat split, in graded order but it will incorporate the Whites and Yellows Championship.
With 21 cars currently eligible for the Whites and Yellows, they will form between them Groups A and B in the 2/3rd split and the remainder of cars will be Group C. Heat 1 of the night will be the Whites and Yellows Championship, and then a further 2 heats will be run, Heat 2 will be Groups B & C and Heat 3 will be Groups A & C
All heat points gained will be calculated to form the grid for the Golden Helmet Final, with the highest point scorers at the front of the grid, which will set off in groups of six for the final race of what has been a superb season for the Oval Track Legends.
We are already looking to the 2014 season and the probability of there being quite an increase in the number of drivers in the Series.
We are pleased to announce that we will be running a separate 2014 Points Championship for 1200 runners as well as the overall points Championship and we will continue to provide a Highest placed 1200 runner in each final.
Current thoughts for next year are to increase the number of meetings available, but to re-introduce the dropping of a certain number of meetings say to a maximum score of 16 counting meetings. This is an idea to put forward to help drivers that are unable to commit to all meetings and also to naturally contribute to the control of numbers of cars at each meeting.
There is also a consideration for an ‘away’ weekend in Scotland, but we would like your feedback on this as it may well be a year too early.
Any comments regarding next year will be gratefully received, so please contact either myself on 07736 805 537 or Deane at Head Office on 01252 322 920.
