Most drivers, if not all are very aware that tyre wear at Birmingham Wheels is a massive issue and to a lesser extent, Northampton is also hard on tyres.
It has been suggested that we run a couple of experimental meetings (one at each track) where drivers are restricted in some way with the tyres that can be used on the day.
For example, each driver could be allowed to declare four tyres and one spare at the start of the meeting, and apart from if a tyre gets damaged and becomes unusable, those are the tyres that you are restricted to use on the night. It would be the same for all drivers.
We would devise a system where the tyres are marked for that meeting and these could be checked on a random basis if required.
So, what do you think?
It is only an idea and we would value drivers’ feedback – it doesn’t have to be as above, you may like to suggest an alternative, but the concept would be to reduce the spend on tyres.
Please take a couple of minutes and send your comments to info@spedeworth.co.uk It would be a good idea to note who you are in the email and to include a contact telephone number, so that we can get back to you if required.
I trust that you think it would be worth investing the time into an experiment like this and we hope to hear from your soon.
Yours in racing
