160 SOLDIERS marched into battle at Hednesford Hills Raceway on Sunday, and it was the South who came out on top at an action-packed Civil War 16.
With a new General in charge in the shape of Scott Wagstaff the North were eager to avenge last year’s defeat and came well tooled up in the Tanks with several American beasts but the South, commanded as ever by General Paul Adams, were also impressively rostered with a trio of the now-infamous Chrysler Imperials.
The South’s main strength was in the Unlimited division while the North dominated the Infantry but the Light Brigade was closer with the sides proving evenly matched in their Micras and Kas. The South pulled out an early lead over the first few battles but a whitewash in the Infantry Final saw the gap close, the South rallying their troops well over the last few events to seal victory with a couple of DDs to spare and close the gap to 9-7 on overall victories in War history.
There were many impressive hits and pile-ups throughout the day while the Southern Tank division used their Panzer-like Chryslers to good effect, a great day being had by all concerned.
So, commiserations to the Northern Army, who today will be licking their wounds and investigating just why their battle plan failed to work this time around.
In comparison, the flags will be flying high in the South, proud of their victory over their old enemies!
Well done to all drivers, officials and supporters for a superb day and here’s to the 17th War next winter - put a date in your diary now – 17th January 2016
