All at Incarace would like to thank all the drivers and fans for a truly fantastic May Bank Holiday weekend, with great meetings held at all three of our venues.
The action began at Birmingham Wheels Raceway on Saturday with round two of the I Factor series, no fewer than 24 races staged across eight formulae. All the drivers and officials took part in a wonderfully observed minute’s silence and musical tribute to Modstox racer 9 Neil Clayton following his tragic recent passing, and his former formula served up a wonderful Final in tribute with 21 James Spittle winning a frantic one-lap dash to the flag – a fitting win as James raced against Neil in Rebels for many years. The Stoxkarts, Slick Cars and MASCARs were other highlights of the packed programme, while Banger racer 03 Bryn Starr made a winning debut in the Incarods.
Then on Sunday it was on to Northampton where 43 Paul Wright made it three 2 Litre Hot Rod Midland Championships in as many years, holding off the hard-charging 60 Mark Paffey all the way and 565 Dan Smith taking third from tenth on the grid. The track’s BriSCA F2 World Qualifier saw 101 Kelvyn Marshall take the Final after early leader 571 Darren Clarke was bumpered out on a restart, while pre meeting favourite 154 Mike Green suffered a rollover but escaped unhurt. A fine field of Micro National Bangers saw plenty of drivers take home big wrecks on a very lively day, 247 Lee Clarke making it two Northampton Finals in succession and fellow EA visitor 89 Joe Barratt taking the DD. White grader 77 Jack Goodier meanwhile topped the Lightning Rods scoring his maiden win in the Final.
Bank Holiday Monday saw the Hednesford grandstands and terraces packed almost to capacity, and what a meeting the drivers served up to reward the fans. The track’s annual Caravan Grand Prix saw the raceway completely covered in debris after only a few laps, no-one completing the full distance and 73 Darren Carr winning the event on laps completed, 298 Carl Locker winning the DD after 03 Bryn Starr amused by bombing round with his car completely hidden inside the shell of a caravan! Elsewhere the UK Oval Track Legends contested their National Championship and it was one of their very best meetings for many years, 21 Sean Smith defeating eight time champion 6 Ian Hales in a stunning race for the lead, but sadly both cars would fail post race checks and 19 Miles Rudman inherited the title. 27 Mikey Godfrey scored an excellent hat-trick in the National Hot Rods after several cars were unfortunately eliminated after crashing out on an oil slick in heat one, while the day’s Banger races saw 21 Gavin Robinson claim a heat and Final double while 190 Daniel Rice entertained with two rollovers.
Hednesford also saw the presence of that old rascal Timmy the Tyre and his new friend Humfree the Hamster, mascot of local station Free Radio. It was Humfree’s first time at a motor race event and he loved every second of the action, he and Timmy teaming up to entertain the huge crowd in fine style.
Thank you and well done to everyone involved for making this weekend one of the best at Incarace in a long time!
