Well, those who arrived at Hednesford Hills yesterday have now woken from their slumber to a fine dry day and after the fun of practice and a few sociable drinks it is now race day! Today is all about securing a good spot on the grid for championship day tomorrow. The National Hot Rods top the bill with over 50 cars in attendance from all points in the National Hot Rod world with all nations represented. The Stock Rods also have a huge field. The Lightning Rods and Legends round off a fantastic four formula programme of action.

Legends
Heat One
48 Dan Hughes, 156, 33, 24, 60, 161, 12, 64, 151, 495.
And we are off and running with the first race of the day featuring the Legends. The race featured an excellent battle between 48 Hughes and 156 Blundell for the lead with the 48 driver staying in front to take the first win of the weekend.
Heat Two
48 Dan Hughes, 156, 11, 65, 12, 242, 43, 84, 32, 272.
Dan Hughes makes it a race winning double as he takes victory in the second heat for the Legends.
Heat Three
12 Stephen Treherne, 11, 156, 161, 495, 52, 242, 48, 60, 84.
Stephen Treherne takes the third heat for Legends in tricky conditions as a brief shower makes conditions tricky for drivers.
National Hot Rods
Heat One
970 Shane Murphy, 115, 996, 162, 278, 41, 100, H66, 117, 261.
An excellent race from the Nationals with the last two holders of the National Championship battling it out at the sharp end of the grid. The pace of 970 Murphy saw him having to deal with lapped traffic which he did clinically to increase the gap on the 115 Haird car to take a fine win.
Heat Two
9 Glenn Bell, 961, 209, 174, 271, 444, 95, 28, 67, 940.
In a race that can only be described as frantic it was world champion Glenn Bell who took the victory. The original start was aborted due to the 39 Hunn car failing to start - some cars slowed quicker than others with 27 Godfrey being the unfortunate victim. A great battle ensued between 9 Bell and 961 Casey and when the red flags brought a slightly premature end to the race due to a spectacular engine blow up for 369 Maxwell; it was 9 Bell ahead on the outside line by 0.022 seconds!
Heat Three
348 Shane Brereton, 95, 9, 615, 76, 31, 278, 996, 961, H66.
In a much quieter race than the first two, it is 348 Brereton who takes victory in his Tigra. 9 Bell follows up his earlier win with a handy third place to maintain his strong challenge for pole position.
Heat Four
Following the installation laps, the decision was taken to allow the cars to return to the pits to change tyres due to a sudden downpour.
41 Carl Boardley, 940, 115, 960, 970, 491, 39, 162, 74, 271.
Multi-champion 41 Carl Boardley makes a return to the winner's circle at Hednesford Hills with a fine win on a wet track in heat 4.
Heat Five
117 Robert McDonald, 115, 41, 95, 970, 162, 76, 9, 871, 339.
Heat Five was always going to be spectacular as it featured the top 4 in the qualifying points in the shape of 9, 41, 115 & 970. Tyre choice was always going to be crucial on a rapidly drying track. Scotsman Robert McDonald drove away to a fine win but the eyes of the majority of the crowd were transfixed on the 41/115 battle which saw 115 Haird eventually steal second place. One heat to go to determine who's in and who's out for tomorrow's big race!
Heat Six
174 Jason Kew, 994, 67, 960, 940, 996, 39, 10, 271, 278.
Jason Kew takes the win after taking advantage of his favourable starting position in the final heat for the National Hot Rods for today. Can he make it a race winning double in the FORDS Charity Bike Race tomorrow?!
Lightning Rods
Heat One
368 Steve Santry, 781, 87, 937, 926, 355, 51, 730, 962, 633.
A typically fast and furious race from the Lightning Rods saw 368 Santry take the win after long time leader 92 York spun out with just over a lap to go.
Heat Two
923 Stephen Emerson, 926, 355, 633, 937, 314, 87, 974, 730, 962.
The Lightning Rods were called into action early due to the postponed National Hot Rod race and it was European Champion Stephen Emerson who took victory in the 923 car on a wet track.
Heat Three
924 Mervyn Emerson, 240, 633, 355, 22, 962, 51, 78, 730, 781.
A fast and furious race saw 924 Emerson take the win. The top 5 were in close proximity for much of the race, providing the spectators with some close racing action.
Stock Rods
Heat One
894 Colm O'Sullivan, 95, 28, 3, 755, 658, 75, 197, 669, 172.
The heavens opened as the Stock Rods took to the track for their first race of the day. Limerick driver Colm O'Sullivan took the 894 car to victory as the thunder clapped prior to a short hail storm!
The sun has subsequently reappeared!
Heat Two
447 Stuart Smyth, 192, 647, 41, 823, 83, 74, 97, 92, 171.
On a rapidly drying track it was World Champion 447 Stuart Smyth who took a faultless win as he stamped his authority all over the second heat for the Stock Rods.
Heat Three
876 Lewis Clark, 168, 394, 75, 8, 658, 669, 755, 227, 251.
Incarace's own Lewis Clark takes a win in heat three for the Stock Rods.
Heat Four
288 Harry Palmer, 211, 57, 900, 879, 730, 647, 192, 447, 74.
Spedeworth's Harry Palmer takes an excellent win in the 288 Nova as the rain continues to hold off.
Heat Five
669 Ed Trofer, 829, 172, 168, 8, 876, 101, 136, 116, 75.
Another home win as Ed Trofer brings the 669 car home in first place.
Heat Six
447 Stuart Smyth, 25, 171, 83, 41, 151, 57, 647, 730, 74.
A straightforward win for 447 Smyth who shook off 171 O'Dell in the early stages to cruise to victory.
