Northampton 14/7 - Added 14/7/12

Hello and greetings from a currently warm and dry Northampton International Raceway where last night's rain may have affected the conditions under the feet of those in the fields but it has certainly not dampened the spirits of the crowd who have gathered for one of BriSCA's biggest weekends as the F1 & F2 Stock Cars compete for the final few places on tomorrow's European Championship grids.

However it is the third formula on show that gets us underway in a busy programme of events as the Rebel Racers take to the track for the first race of the night.

Rebel Racers

Heat One
81 Lyndon Rushby, 25, 41, 818, 78, 601, 269, 385, 656, 18.

A fast paced race saw Lyndon Rushby eventually overhaul the long time leader 510 and extend the gap to those behind him to take the first win of the weekend.

Heat Two
601 Mark Wareham, 352, 72, 156, 25, 385, 170, 252, 589, 269.

As the rain continues to fall, the awkward conditions account for several ,drivers who spin out on the wet surface. Former F2 star Wareham takes a well earned win.

Final
656 Adam Joyce, 601 Mark Wareham, 81 Lyndon Rushby, 72, 385, 23, 263, 25, 252, 156.

One of the form drivers in the Rebel Racers takes his first win of the weekend as Adam Joyce overhauls earlier heat winner Wareham to take victory in tonight's feature event for the Rebel Racers.

F2 Stock Cars

Heat One
7 Gordon Moodie, 788, 921, 222, 571, NI998, 783, 401, 854, 606.

One of the favourites for tomorrow's big race stamps his authority early on proceedings as Gordon Moodie makes it look effortless on his way to a comprehensive victory in the first F2 race.

Heat Two
218 Rob Speak, 207, 59, 700, 100, 647, 817, 154, 844, 324.

8 times former world champion in the F2 Stock Cars Rob Speak stamps his authority all over this race as he catches long time leader 207 with a few laps remaining. The race was restarted following an early red flag for the 560 car which was stranded across the home straight. A short rain shower then came over the stadium with Speak making the most progress in slippery conditions.

Heat Three
886 Chris Bradbury, 968, 935, 270, 676, 286, 409, NI925, 101, 186.

One of the top drivers around the Brafield tarmac takes the chequered flag as Chris Bradbury takes the win in heat three with a dominant performance. An interesting note in this race is Todd Jones finishing 6th - Todd will be aiming for a unique championship double as he is the current Superstox European Champion and would love to double up with victory in tomorrow's European Championship race for the F2 Stock Cars.

Consolation One
186 George Turricki, 383, 606, 761, 254, 183, 581, 871, 313, 101.

George Turricki catches long time leader yellow top 383 Brown in the last few laps to take the win in the first consolation despite 383's last bend challenge.

Consolation Two
20 Dave Tagell, 618, 8, 341, 324, 716, 115, 854, NI312, NI929.

In a fast paced race run on a drying track, it is Dave Tagell who holds off a last bend challenge from 618 Lockwood to take the win.

Final

A big rollover for recently crowned UK Open Champion 341 Drew Lammas. brings the race to a stop under red flags - the grid will be reformed and we will try again!

Final Result
761 Richard Bowyer, 409 Luke Maw, 7 Gordon Moodie, 817, 20, 647, 886, 218, 401, 100.

Richard Bowyer secures a red roof for next week as he takes the feature final for F2 Stock Cars. Bowyer set a ferocious pace once in the lead and won by a considerable distance from second placed 409 Maw who was again clear of Moodie in third who arguably showed a little more aggression with the bumper than usual. A fast race on a dry track showed the F2s at their best - one more race for them tonight in their Grand National!

Grand National
817 Tim Bailey, 921, 100, 8, 886, 676, 20, 222, H3.

In a race beset by stoppages including one for 184 and final winner 761; it is it is Tim Bailey in the 817 car who takes his first win in the F2s with victory in the last race of the night.

F1 Stock Cars

Heat One
229 Derek Brown, 191, 12, 84, 37, 195, 464, 321, 462, 259.

Following a delay to attend to H148 Danny Smidt who had rolled spectacularly on turns one and two; it was 229 Brown who led from start to finish to take his first ever win!

Heat Two
417 Mike James, 150, 16, H247, 4, 55, 246, 422, 212, H195.

The Music Man takes a well earned victory in Heat Two as Cornishman Mike James claims the win. Defending European Champion Mick Sworder finished second in a race that was stopped for a tangle between 141 and 172. Sworder could not get close enough to James for one of his trademark lunges!

Consolation
73 Rob Cowley, 515, 161, 141, 2, 11, H6, 22, 218, 412.

The rain may be easing again but conditions on track are still difficult as 411 and 427 find themselves locked together on the exit of turn two early in the race. Rob Cowley keeps his head as those around him fight with each other to take a good win - with the lap of honour enjoyed in traditional Cowley style!

Final

The race is stopped in the early stages to retrieve the stricken 217 Lee Fairhurst car on turn 4. There had already been a couple of tangles involving 55 & 217 and also 37 & 161. 229 Derek Brown leads is away at the restart.

Another yellow flag as the H195 car requires moving. 195 has a few backmarkers directly behind him before we find 191 Smith on secondbut the star men are on their way led by third placed 4 Johnson, 515 Wainman, 84 Harris and 150 Sworder who are all one behind the other - expect fireworks!

Final Result
195 Dean Whitwell, 84 Tom Harris, 515 Frankie Wainman Jnr, 191, 4, 2, 141, 12, 212, 73.

It didn't take long for the fireworks to go off after the restart as 4 Johnson and 515 Wainman clashed with several big hits going in. Yellow top 195 Whitwell holds on comfortably to take his first ever final win!

Grand National
12 Michael Striven, 412, 229, 172, 84, 515, 37, 150, 16, H247.

The race is stopped early to rescue the stranded 427 car. A spectacular battle ensues between 84 Harris, 150 Sworder and 515 Wainman who trade hits and places for several laps before the race is brought under caution for the stricken 337 machine of Dave Willis. Michael Scriven takes a narrow win as he wins the drag race to the line coming out of turn 4 with 412. A great race to round off tonight's F1 action!

UPDATE - H148 Danny Smidt returned to the track before the end of the meeting after being checked out at the hospital and is fine.

Don't forget to join us tomorrow for European Championship day. Results will be posted here but we have been promised better weather for the Sunday so why not join us in person?!
