The Stock Rods made their first 2012 appearance at a Spedeworth raceway when they took to the Plough Lane tarmac for the London Championship event at Wimbledon Stadium on January 8th.

A slightly lower than usual 17 cars made their way into the capital for two reverse grid heats which would determine starting positions for the London Championship Final itself.

Heat One was won by 747 Ricky Glendening from 447 Stuart Smyth and 213 Graham Moreton. Heat Two was won by 151 Luke Oliver from 251 Lee Ribbans and 168 Andy Sturt. Smyth finished also featured strongly in this race as he drove from near the back of the grid to finish fourth.

Following his top 4 finished in both heats; it was the World Champion's 447 Vauxhall Nova that took pole position for the London Championship Final which featured a spectacular rollover for 417 Helen Blackman - whose new sparkling blue roof certainly looked a little second hand afterwards! Helen climbed out of the car unhurt and we hope it won't be too long before we see her back on track. Stuart Smyth made a good restart from the front and held on to his lead until the chequered flag to regain the London Championship. Andy Sturt 168 finished second on track but fell foul of the steward's eagle eye and was docked two places for contact - elevating Heat One Winner Ricky Glendening 747 to second place and 251 Lee Ribbans to third.
