Bradbury Victorious! - Added 28/3/2011

Congratulations to Chris Bradbury 886 for taking the first Silverware of the season.

Chris has dominated BriSCA F2 proceedings at Birmingham over the last couple of seasons, and he proved invincible again in the fourth annual March Spedeweeks Championship Grand Final at a cold Birmingham Wheels Raceway on Saturday.

27 cars lined up for the first F2 title race of the year across all grades, and it was 955 Shaun Blakemore who led off before the yellow flags flew for the stranded 909 Andy Cattell after a tangle with 183 Mark Guinchard. On the restart it didn’t take long for Bradbury and fellow superstar 445 Nigel Green to cut through the field and take the leading Blakemore, helped by a few tangles among the red tops, and the pair went on to finish first and second by a clear margin with 732 Daz Kitson completing the trophy spots. It was a close fought affair between first and second, but it was Bradbury who took the chequered first, winning by just over half a second.

Green and Bradbury would dominate the meeting between them from there on in, winning a heat each before Green sped to the win in the Final, Bradbury having to settle for third behind 921 Jack Aldridge. A short sharp shower slowed things a little in the National, but it didn’t stop Bradbury who completed his hat-trick.

The Rebels were also on the bill in their third meeting of the year, the main story being an excellent first ever win for 74 Tim Leeton in their Grand National in only his third ever meeting. Earlier 72 Nick Taylor had taken his second Feature race win of the year ahead of 35 Stuart Moss and 25 Antony Masters, the heats going to 170 Craig Thompson and 656 Adam Joyce. With 1 Steve Shaw failing to finish the main event, Joyce moved to the top of the National Points table.

The BriSCA Heritage cars completed the entry, a double figure turnout of F1s seeing heat wins for 337 Steve Plant in the Steve Bates car and 55 Tom Drabble in the Bert Finnikin replica before 7 Garry Tressler took his familiar Darkie Wright replica to the Final from Drabble and 59 Barrie Shepherd. The F2s saw the low-slung machines of 762 Phil Smith and 658 Stu Silman win the heats before the latter collided with 551 Brian Jones in the Final, 676 Steve Bateman winning from 505 Mick Whittle and 773 Nick Whitney.
