Team Black star 67 Rickie Beasley took the biggest win of his National Banger career at the ORCi 2 Litre Championship of the World at Hednesford on Sunday.

54 cars gridded for the ninth annual running of the biggest limited-cc race in the sport, with 128 Mark Atkins and 898 Andy Battle drawing the front row with Beasley back in the midfield. The former Coventry Masters champion was able to pick his way through the early action and was soon second behind 516 Carl Gould, and when a turn two pile-up forced the East Anglian wide and Beasley was through, controlling the pace from there on and reeling off the laps for an accomplished triumph.

Team Black may be no strangers to winning titles with the likes of 617 Jack Overy and 998 Wayne Cottrill among their ranks, but they now have a new champion driver among their ranks and one who is likely to go all the way to the top in his sport.

Gould – who was lucky to be on track following a very nasty smash at Northampton a couple of weeks previously – held on for second with RDC’s 682 Paul Sparrow an excellent third.

The day’s other highlights included a superb Allcomers race with massive hits flying in everywhere you looked, a brilliant war between the Gladiators and Cream Team, and brothers 549 Phil and 589 Simon Smith working together to finish off 180 Mark Foster in the DD before meeting head-on to share the win.
