Congratulations to Spedeworth National Banger driver 27 Dale Hughes who won the World Final at Ipswich for the second time in three years, to follow up his brother Lee's success in the PRI World in September.
Dale came through from grid position 19 in his mk.2 Ford Granada to beat a 55 car field to the premier title in banger racing.
The race had been led by Lee Usher, Paul Tompkins, Steve Bailey and Jason Jackson in the space of 3 laps before an early stoppage saw a complete restart. This time Lee Usher's Rover SD1 got away and built up a large lead, but Dale Hughes was fighting his way through the pack and gaining on Usher. Just as it looked like with only a few laps to go Usher was getting away again, he came across some back markers which allowed Dale to close right up and punt the Rover wide to take up the lead and to receive the coveted chequered flag.
Earlier in the day the last chance races had been won by Spedeworth driver 753 Billy Cunningham, Incarace's 223 Brett Harrison and RDC's 222 Dave Vincent. The two allcomers races after the World Final fielded 59 and 50 cars and went the way of 46 Keith Painter and 617 Jack Overy, with the DD being a dead heat between 158 Shane Davies and 100 Callum White to end a top quality night's entertainment from the banger boys!
