Another capacity crowd is expected at Foxhall Stadium on Saturday Night (6pm Start Time) as the stadium lights up for its annual Gala Night Banger Racing and firework spectacular.

Over 90 bangers are booked in to contest another round of the Peter Brown Developments backed Ipswich Banger Championship which will see current leader Dave Canham arrive with a 23 point lead over second placed man Dan Harvey. Gala night always means a healthy grid of local drivers and this year is no exception. Kevin Thurlow (Woodbridge) will be kept busy as he is racing his Stock Car and having an outing with the Bangers, so if he can keep the car running he could be out in every race on the night. Ipswich pairing of Craig and Darren Yates are booked in along with established regular names such as Michael Mills and Andy Hill. The popular and ever present Ipswich based “Team Simple” are racing with all of the usual team members at the wheel, Sean and Darren Parratt, Gavin Ward, Jake Steward and of course Jason Thurlow. Traditionally the “Simples” like to do battle with the red and black cars of the “Cheetas” Gala Night always brings out the best in the drivers who really want to put on a great show so watch out for the action when these Bangers take to the track.

Woodbridge car breaker Derek Spall is a regular racer at Foxhall and often in the action as is Michael Lane, Lane is in the top 10 of the Ipswich points series but needs a good haul of points this weekend if he is going to stand any chance of a top three finish, if that looks unlikely he will probably just go for the crash , if that turns out to be the case he will sure put on a good show for the crowd. Looking to get his picture in the paper for the third time this year is Joe Palmer, Palmer became front page news when he managed to roll his car and leave it perched on its nose at Foxhall earlier in the Summer, he then followed this up with a spectacular rollover at Spedeweekend in July, ever the showman he stood on the roof of the car and took the applause of the spectators who were nearby. Can he make it three big crashes in the season? Gala night will be the night to do it, and given that Palmer is another driver who is racing both his Stock Car and Banger at this meeting he stands a good chance. Local support is strong for Mark “Flanders” Armstrong a hard charging emerging Banger star who is fast becoming feared by the established drivers with his hard hitting “take no prisoners” style of driving.

1300cc Stock Cars make up the racing with a good entry of drivers including new World Champion Barry Radcliffe from Great Yarmouth. Local eyes as ever will be on the Woodbridge trio of Mark Bloss plus the aforementioned Joe Palmer and Kevin Thurlow. Gary Alyward makes the trip up from the south to take on the East Anglian stars and former Ministox star Adam O’Dell from Bedford is booked in. O’Dell has settled into this full contact class very quickly and is firmly established as one of the formula’s top star drivers.

Promoters Spedeworth are expecting the usual big crowd for Gala Night and are advising spectators to arrive at the stadium well before the 6pm start time. Drivers are also requested to follow the special direction signs to the car park if approaching from the A12 end of Foxhall Road.
