A busy new season of stock car racing got under way at the Yarmouth stadium last Sunday afternoon featuring an all-contact meeting, writes Graham Utting.

Steven Jackson had his brand new superstox on display but chose to use his old car, a decision that paid off for him as he took a fine hat-trick of wins.

Martham's Ian Curtis made his return to racing but unfortunately a visit to the fence in the opening heat side-lined him for the rest of the day.

Ormesby's Bryson Walker was the man on form in the ministox taking the first heat after being challenged all the way to the flag by Jordan Murray. The next heat Walker had to settle for second place behind George Boult, before gong on the take the chequered flag in the final.

A good field of 1300cc stock cars produced some excellent racing. Norwich's Craig Gould came out on top in their first heat but after that the honours went to two of the furthest travelled drivers Daniel Bennett (Reading) and final winner Steve Marten from Newhaven in which Kelsale driver Jason Scopes ended up on his roof after hitting the safety fence hard on the home straight.

Next meeting at the stadium, March 21, 2.30pm start time sees the superstox back in action competing for their East Anglian championship. The regular Yarmouth formula the Rookie Rods start their season with some new cars expected from Nathan Welch, Bradley Hudson and John Woodhouse and probably a few others that have been busy over the winter months. It's also the return of banger racing at the circuit.
