The chequered flag falls for the final time this year at Foxhall Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a 1pm start time. Bringing and end to a great season at the Ipswich track are the Superstox who race for the Bob Nicholls Motorcycles Winter Cup and the Bangers who have reached the grand final of the Peter Brown Developments Ipswich Track Championship.
Given the time of year a healthy entry of 24 Superstox have booked in to race including 2010 World Champion Colin Aylward who will be keen to repeat his Foxhall form from October when he took the biggest title in the formula. Another who will be looking for a repeat Foxhall performance is Sarah Cooper from Thetford, Sarah took a win here back at that historic World Final meeting in a race also sponsored by today’s meeting sponsor, maybe a little of the Nicholls Foxhall magic will rub of on her and her immaculate new HCD built machine. Ryan Eaton drove a superb race here last time out to claim 3rd spot in the World race, Eaton is enjoying a real “on form” patch right now and is good when its a little wet or slippery, given the current weather conditions and the fact that the track is struggling to even dry out Eaton could well be a driver to keep an eye on this Sunday. Polley is a familiar name to race fans, and this time its David Polley having an outing in the Superstox. A former F2 driver and now enjoying a career in the National Hot Rods Polley made his Superstox debut at Wimbledon Stadium a few weeks ago at the annual Best In Britain meeting, he had a steady night then and will no doubt soon adapt to the wide open bends of Foxhall.
The man who took the honours that night in London was Liam Lambert from Great Yarmouth and if anyone is a star in the making it has to be Liam, a beautifully presented car and he knows how to drive it as well. Like Polley, Lambert will be a name known to race fans from 15 to 20 years ago, Gary Lambert being a real force in the Superstox class in the early to mid 90’s. Local eyes will be on Ben Munford from Bury St Edmunds, Billy Smith from Diss and Ipswich racer Michael Robinson.
The Bangers always put on a great show at Foxhall and this end of season Grand Final of the Ipswich Banger Championship looks like ensuring that the 2010 season goes out with a bang. Ipswich driver Dave Canham has already got the title in the bag with Martlesham garage owner Simon Berry in second place, Daniel Harvey will want to challenge Berry for the runners up spot and he in turn will be looking over his shoulder for Kevin Buckley and Simon Rose who are in 4th and 5th places. Its in this top five that the important places are up for grabs and a podium place looks impossible for anyone else in the Championship which has seen 48 drivers scoring points over the season. Some of the established Ipswich Banger drivers are a little lower down in the points this year than usual, “this just goes to show what a keenly fought series this is every year” said Spedeworth Racing Manager Christer Earrey “once again its thanks to Peter Brown for his support with the Ipswich series, it has been very close in the top 5” he added.
Fixture planning for 2011 is in the final stages and the new season starts at Foxhall on 5th March.
