Foxhall Stadium - Saturday 26th March - Added 24/3/2011

With the 2011 racing season well into its stride this Saturday evening sees a three formula line up at Foxhall Stadium with the usual 6.45 start time, and there is a formula to cater for all tastes as the National Hot Rods are in town to contest Round 10 of the 2011 World qualifying series. If contact is your thing then the Superstox and 1300 Stock Cars will ensure that you go home happy as they always enjoy the wide open Foxhall Raceway.

All three formulae will have the respective World Champion present with Chris Haird leading the charge in the National Hot Rods, Haird will be out in his new Tigra which had its debut at Northampton two weeks ago, which turned out to be quite an incident packed meeting for Mark Paffey who ended up on top of Ralph Saunders just 8 laps into the opening race in one of the most unusual National Hot Rod crashes in recent years. No one was hurt and both cars were out for the next race, which in fact Paffey won, testament to today’s modern construction rules. Joining the class this year is former Brisca F2 pilot George Turiccki, always one to watch in the F2’s he had an impressive debut last time out and he has the right equipment having purchased the world beating ex-Chris Haird car over the Winter. Southwold’s Gavin Murray is back for another season and is sitting comfortably in 4th place in the points, Murray will be looking to score well at Ipswich to cement his place as this will bode well for his starting slot at the World Final at Foxhall in July. Jason Cooper made the switch to the non-contact class last season and quickly found his feet in a quick McCall built Peugeot, for 2011 he has joined the expanding ranks of SHP-Haird Motorsport built Tigra Bs and he did look quick at Northampton, Cooper was on the pace all day until a crash in the final left his car half way up the retaining wall and quite a large repair bill over the last 2 weeks.

All the usual names will be at Foxhall, ex World Champion Malcolm Blackman is back on form right now and riding high in the points, Blackman won the big race back in 2004 and is hungry for success again with many in the know saying that this could be the year for his second win. Willie Hardie makes the trip down from Scotland, Hardie of course now has his hands on probably the most successful Hot Rod of all time, the 4 times World Final winning Carl Boardley machine, but he hasn’t raced it yet, and has no plans to yet. On the subject of Boardley all eyes will be on the new Tigra of Northern Irelands Gary Wolsey as he makes his debut in a car built in the Ipswich workshops of the former 4 times World Champion, arguably the formulas most successful driver in recent years. Boardley was a driver who drove with his head, he and his team had the skills to set up a car like no other, with Wolsey having the benefit of that expertise he will be worth watching this weekend. Probably not likely to trouble the leaders on the night, but welcome into the formula is Suffolk driver Shaun Taylor, having acquired the ex Gavin Murray 206CC Taylor is making the step up from the Spedeworth Stock Rod class into the big league Nationals, asked about his debut he said “I’ve always wanted to do the National Hot Rods but couldn’t afford it, I still can’t! But the chance came along for us to have this car and thanks to a lot of help from a lot of people we are out there.’

Superstox are back at Foxhall for their first East Anglian meeting of the year. World Champion Colin Aylward returns to the scene of his big win back in October. There will actually be 6 Superstox World Champions racing at this event, including the man who has won it more times than anyone, Garry Sparkes from Felsham. Local eyes will be on the Meadows boys from Woodbridge, Alex is now joined by younger brother James, (spare a thought for Dad Andrew who has to repair the cars!) both having graduated from the Ministox where they cut their racing teeth.

1300 Stock Cars are racing with a healthy local entry, Mark Bloss, Kevin Thurlow and Joe Palmer are all Foxhall regulars. Palmer was the Foxhall crash king last year and could be forgiven for wanting to shake of that crown in 2011 and concentrate on winning a few races. World Champion Barry Radcliffe from Great Yarmouth is booked in and will for sure want to show the others, and race fans, why he is the formulas number one driver.
