The annual Best in Britain meeting at Wimbledon Stadium is one of the most eagerly anticipated meetings of the winter months among Spedeworth race fans and while it may have been cold and damp the action was hot from the start to the finish.
We were delighted to have visitors from Incarace, PRI and Northern Ireland and all the Lightning Rod drivers put on a great show in their big Sierras!
As usual with the Lightning Rods - no quarter was asked for and none given as the cars thundered around Plough Lane. Nrthern Irish multi-champion Stephen Emerson 923 won the first heat with Mike Daniels 730 winning the second heat. 503 Ben Murray looked good for winning the meeting final but, in the end, succumbed to both 730 and 923 as they overtook the 503 car. 923 piled the pressure on 730 for the remaining laps but could not find a way past.
Our congratulations go to the top 3 in the Best in Britain final:
730 Mike Daniels
923 Stephen Emerson
503 Ben Murray
Our thanks go to all drivers who attended and put on such a great show in damp & slippery conditions.
Thanks to Chris Berry for the photos.
