Round 2 of the Banger World Series took place at Aldershot Raceway on Sunday 7th April, and if you weren't there then we sympathise with you!
A superb field of 80 cars assembled in the pits and a cracking afternoon of great racing, great crashing and a great atmosphere was the result!
The pre-meeting free photo signing session went down well again - on signing duties were 239 Steve 'Nemesis' Carter, 252 Steve 'Boogie' Bugler, 260 Keith 'Keefy' Reynolds, 360 Jack 'Jackstar' Reynolds and 542 Craig Oliver - thanks to Boogie and Craig for stepping in at short notice after other drivers were delayed coming back from the World Cup meeting in Scotland the night before!
Spedeworth National Banger star 264 Mark Welland took the biggest prize of the day by winning the Wild Card straight into the World Final at Ipswich in October, and with it a top sign writing job from Samways Signs who kindly sponsored that race! Mark has yet to win the World title and few would want to deny him that opportunity to try again.
Gladiator and BWS star Craig Oliver then won the Showdown and the £300 purse which went with it - thanks to S J Automobile Services for their generous sponsorship of that race!
The whole day was superb with the drivers in the other formulas (2.0 Stock Cars, V8 Stock Cars & Ninja Karts) all playing their part but the National Bangers stole the show with a fantastic display of racing and wrecking all day!! The huge crowd played their part in creating a great atmosphere and even the sun came out to play.
The Bears v DWO Challenge provided a break in proceedings as they had a tug of war on the infield in micro Bangers which also saw 190 Steve 'Pikey' Bailey and 341 Andrew 'Jonesy' Jones making their first appearance for a while as they warm up for their comeback from bans at the end of the month, DWO taking the win helped a bit by the Bears' Nutty Nige deciding to stick it in reverse instead of forward gear to spice things up - the 6 drivers then all had a DD to finish the cars off!!
The BWS moves on to Pr1mo Northampton on Sunday 28th April for Round 3, don't miss it!!!
Thanks to Damian Savage of www.ovalracingphotos.co.uk for the photos.
