The inaugural Banger World Championship took place on Saturday night at Foxhall Stadium and it was local lad 309 Michael Lane who took the honours with a great drive!
With other top favourites 558 Rob Haines and 529 Keith Conlon both drawing grid numbers near the front they looked like the two favourites, and although they set the early pace they both went out in the same incident getting caught by a back marker. 426 Mark Pope took up the running but Lane was reeling him in, Pope got caught up a couple of times and Lane was through.
Laney then had to contend with the lurking Ben Warner who had a couple of attacks at him but Laney drove a blinder to deservedly take the win and the all-important title of World Champion! Autospeed driver 929 Sam Baker also drove a stormer to take 2nd, and although Skegness pilot Chris Walden crossed the line in 3rd he failed post-meeting scrutineering checks elevating Pope to 3rd in the final result. Also well done to 194 Steve 'Cecil' Anscombe who placed 4th from the back of the grid after having qualified via his last chance race!
Other wins on the night went to 47 Chris Watling (in the other last chance), 46 Matthew Latham and 228 Rob Barnes (allcomers races), while 183 Jack Strudwick outlasted 28 Craig Cooper to take the Destruction Derby.
Overall it was an entertaining night so well done to all drivers for putting on a great show!
Thanks to Chris Berry for the photos!
