Banger racing (formerly Rookie Bangers) was always intended to be a formula designed to make it easier to get the 'man on the street' out onto the track.
We are conscious that the formula is fast getting away from this intention, and with all the modern cars and engines it is very much a learning curve for scrutineers and officials as well as the drivers themselves.
We are keen to try and bring the formula back into line and there are some areas of the rules we are particularly looking at over the coming months.
Ford Focus - we understand that some of these are running the wrong engines and 2 litre carbs against the regulations. Under the rules engine changes are not permitted and if the car was not made with a carb version then a carb should be used which matches the engine size. We are aware also of V-Tec engines being used in Hondas, in shells which never ran a V-Tec, which is illegal.
Hondas should be running on the wheels that come with the car, eg not using 15" wheels if the car came with 14".
Drivers are interchanging injection units between engines which again is not permitted.
We will also be looking at tyres, and particularly banning any low profile tyres.
We would encourage drivers to let us know any other areas where they are aware that the rules are being broken that we may not be aware of so investigations can be made, or where they feel the rules could be improved.
If someone has anything unusual they can apply for written permission to have an exception to any of the rules, but they must have it in writing in advance from the Spedeworth / Incarace office.
Thank you
