Spirit of HQ - Let's Get The Old Boys Back Out For A Go!

We have just about finalised the rules for the Unlimited National Banger Jeff Woolford Memorial which takes place at Aldershot Raceway on 24th August 2014.

The idea of the event is for the racing to be something like it was at the old Aldershot when Jeff was in his prime. We do have to have modern safety measures such as door plates and roll cages so the rules will be as per the current National Banger rules except where specified below. Details are as follows:

Eligible Cars

Any make of unlimited car (smallest car = Triumph 2000) which raced at the old Aldershot is permitted. This therefore includes mk.2 Granadas and series 3 Jags. We will also allow some more modern cars including the Volvo 240. Other cars may be added to the list but there will not be anything modern, so if anyone has a make of car they want to use which did not race at the old Aldershot please ask for permission prior to the meeting.

Engines

We were originally looking at allowing only older engines, but the view is that to make it easier to source engines we will open it up, and with restrictions on lowering and tyres as detailed below the engines will not make so much difference. Modern engines such as the Zetec and Duratec will not be allowed, but we will allow other V6 engines and 2 litre pintos. If in doubt please call.

Tyres

Maximum size - 235
Minimum profile - 55
Maximum width - 15

If anyone has a special car outside of the size restrictions they would like dispensation to use, please call for permission.

Welding / Strengthening

Welding is to the drivers door only, and MOT welding where necessary to patch up where original metal is missing, using tin no thicker than the original metal on the car. Corner plates can be used but must be bolted and not welded.

Cam belt engines may run a cam cover, but these must be the same silhouette as the original and bolted to the original mountings. Maximum thickness of cam guard is 6mm.

Driver Eligibility

Current drivers are eligible to race at this meeting as well as drivers who are no longer racing. If we get enough 'old boys' then we will run them separately at the start of the meeting. To qualify as an 'old boy' drivers must not have raced a contact formula of any sort in the past 5 years. We have already had some enquiries from 'retired' drivers looking to come out which is encouraging.

Some of the old legendary drivers have raced since 'retiring', so let's try and tempt some of them out for one more go like it used to be, about as 'old school' as we can make it!
