A great three formula line up at Foxhall Stadium this Saturday night caters for all followers of Oval Racing as the 2.0 Stock Cars, Slick Cars and National Bangers take to the raceway with the usual 6.45 start time.
It’s the National Banger Fireball as the drivers return to the scene of the World Final earlier in the month, that meeting was for the unlimited cc cars but this time sees the cc limit capped at 1600cc which should see a good mix of cars in the pits. Michael Allard raced a Jaguar in that big race which did not actually last him very well, it will probably be something Japanese and front wheel drive this week with Hondas and Rovers very much the preferred machinery. The ever present Ipswich based Team Simple are booked in so local hopes will be pinned on Gavin Ward, Jason Thurlow and the ever smiling Sean Parratt as they look to crash their way through the field to the front in just 16 laps. Joe Palmer had a quiet meeting here last time by his standards, Palmer has made the papers twice in 2010 with his crashing exploits, maybe he has decided it’s time to win a few races instead of ending them upside down or as he did in June, sanding the car on its nose. Traditionally the Fireball meeting helps to raise funds for Darren Jones a likeable and local Banger driver who was injured in an accident a few years back, Darren will be at Foxhall as he is for a lot of Banger meetings and a few of the drivers who raced with him will paint their cars in the colours of Darren’s HMS Wreckers team.
Slick Cars make up the non contact element of the evening with a combination of what were known as Super Rods and Outlaw Hot Rods racing together which, on the wide open Foxhall raceway makes quite a spectacle. There are a few local drivers to keep an eye on, Gary Farrington races a smart and unusual BMW 3 Series which a lot of race fans are looking forward to seeing. Farrington bought the car to Foxhall for its track debut earlier in the Summer but mechanical gremlins set in before the car made it to the raceway, hopefully the local driver will have better luck this time out. Another Suffolk driver looking to do well is Gavin Taber who is glad to be making a return to non contact racing, Taber has just acquired an ex National Hot Rod Peugeot 206 which he is racing at Foxhall this weekend, he has tested the car at Swaffham admitted to being somewhat nervous about racing it at Foxhall for the first time. National Hot Rod driver Dickie Burtenshaw has booked in to race, he will probably regard this as an ideal opportunity to carry out valuable set up work on his Tigra away from the pressure of a World Qualifiying meeting.
Back with the contact and the fast and furious 2.0 Stock Cars return to Foxhall for the first time since August. The two drivers right on top of their game in this tough class right now are Billy Wood from Aldershot and George Morphey from Saxmundham, these two have had some great duals over the past months and as the season draws to a close both will be keen to come out on top. Determined not to let this pair have things all their own way will be Diggy Smith, the Diss star can never be discounted from a win or getting among the action where ever he races. Robert Gamble makes the trip down from Norfolk and Shane Davies comes up the A12 from Kent, Davies another driver who never backs off and could well upset the established order of Morphey, Wood and Smith on the night.
