Spedeworth / Incarace Motorsports wish to make the following statement regarding the Gala Night Meeting at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich on 7th November.
As with the public present at the meeting, we were bitterly disappointed that a full Firework Display could not take place to everyone’s enjoyment. Pains Fireworks were engaged to provide the display and we have received the following statement from their Director Today;
“On arrival at site and seeing the forecast for the evening it was apparent to our technicians that high winds in the area would pose a risk to the safety of the crowd. As part of our Method Statement and Risk Assessment wind conditions are monitored to determine the positioning of the fireworks and whether certain or all the fireworks can be fired. The weather conditions did not improve as the day went on, so to avoid any chance of injuries in the audience areas the decision to reduce the display content was taken. Fireworks are an enjoyable part of the Spedeworth experience, so ensuring the safety of the crowd is our primary concern. On this occasion I am sure as an audience, you will agree that your safety should not be compromised in favour of firing the display.”
Given the statement provided, the following should be noted;
The Event was an Oval Motorsport Event featuring a Firework Display and not a standalone Firework Display event.
Signs were clearly displayed external to the Turnstiles and inside the Stadium clearly stating that due to the weather, the Fireworks Programme could be reviewed and if necessary amended to suit the conditions in the interests of Health and Safety.
Unfortunately, two Spectators received minor injuries during the Fireworks Display and this is two spectators too many!
We do apologise that your experience with us on Saturday night was not as enjoyable as we had all hoped for, we do endeavour to put on the very best event we possibly can but the Health and Safety of all of our Drivers, Staff and Public has and will always be paramount.
