We at Spedeworth / Incarace are still reeling from yesterday’s very sad news and sadly we have to bring you more devastating news today with the passing of Stock Saloon Legend 227 Andy ‘Titch’ Gardner last evening.
Again, it is so very difficult to put into words the contribution he made to Oval Motorsport with a glowing racing career in Stock Saloons, Bangers, Stock Rods, 1300 Stock Cars and in recent years, V8 Stock Cars it is some record when a driver can boast successes in every single formula he competed in. Again, he was simply an oval racing legend and carried respect from his fellow Drivers and Race Fans the world over.
The pinnacle of ‘Titch’s’ racing career came with the 1985 Stock Saloon European Title at Wisbech, but there were many more occasions when he took big races including a Spedeweekend Golden Helmet award which I personally know he was very proud of. He could easily have become a World Champion just needing that little extra piece of luck, which sometimes eluded him on the big occasions.
Many races were won during a wonderful racing career that entertained thousands of Race Fans in England, Scotland, Holland, Belgium and Germany.
‘Titch’ was a larger than life character and always had time for a chat with everyone at meetings and even after his retirement from racing a few years back, still was a popular character when seen around the Raceways.
Further details of tributes and Funeral details will be announced once we have them but for now we ask you to remember and reflect on a good man and larger than life driver who will be missed by so many.
Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to all the Gardner Family, and many, many friends and fans at this very sad time.
