If you only manage to get to a handful of race meetings at Foxhall in 2010 then this Saturdays three formula line up with the usual 6.45 start time really should be one of them. Superstox, National Bangers and Slick Cars will ensure action all the way with all tastes catered for.
The National Bangers hit town in an all important World Qualifier which sees an 1800cc limit with no Mondeos allowed, so expect to see a good mix of cars in the busy pit area. The big names are already booked in including Lee and Dale Hughes along with Shane Davies are always at the centre of the action. Add into the mix the Norfolk foursome of Carl Gould, Michael Allard, Kieran Cannell and the ever smiling Danny “didn't I put a good show on” Coleman and we have a great line up which should see fireworks right the way through. Diss star Deane Mayes will make the trip down the A140 to make sure he gets the much needed points, Mayes being determined that he has better luck than last year when he missed out at the very last qualifier at Great Yarmouth. Southern based drivers will not want to be left of this one either with Alan “Jethro” Hunt up from Reading and regular at Aldershot raceway Mark Welland both booked in to race. Local eyes will be on Michael Mills from just a stones throw from the stadium at Bucklesham along with Woodbridge racer Jason Smy. This well be a hard meeting with those all important points at stake for Banger Racings biggest night of the year when the World Final returns to Foxhall late in October.
Formula of the year in 2009 is how many have described the Superstox and 2010 looks like more of the same as promoter Spedeworth now has a full booking list of 34 cars. World Champion Ben Marjoram will be racing along with no less than four former Superstox World Champions in Garry Sparkes, Jason Cooper Steve Jackson and Shaun Brooker. So a real superstar line up, can it get any better? Well yes it can, as the big news in Superstox is the arrival of twice BRISCa Formula 2 World Champion Daz Kitson choosing the wide open Foxhall Raceway to make his debut in the Superstox where he will be looking to repeat his success of 2000 and 2001. Interestingly all of the above former winners including Kitson are East Anglian based which goes to show what a hotspot of Superstox talent the area is. This is a round of the Safari Landrover backed series which sees the aforementioned Jackson leading the points with Marjoram hot on his heels. Alex Meadows from the Woodbridge Classic Cars team upholds local honours in eighth place taking a well timed and popular win at Aldershot Raceway two weeks ago, rumour has it the smile has not worn off yet!
Colin Aylward showed his immaculate new car off at that same meeting and he will be continuing its development at Foxhall where he will be joined by his Son Jordan who has joined the Superstox after a career in the Ministox. Essex racer Brett Wesbroom is racing, he will have his usual car at Foxhall while his new car is being built at his Colchester workshop, Wesbroom is still one of a small number of drivers who actually build their own car, many drivers now preferring the factory built machines from the likes of HCD.
If the name “Slick Cars” sounds new, it is, but the names and cars will be very familiar to regular race goers. A mix of Super Rods, Outlaw Hot Rods, and some of the old V6 Eurocars from the circuits these cars are all well suited to a track the size of Foxhall and given that bookings are now into the mid 20's we should see a very good show from them. A handful of National Hot Rods will be joining them with Southwold's Gavin Murray keen to carry out development work on his new Haird Tigra B, Andy Holtby with his lovely Jeff Gordon inspired Tigra, possibly his Brother John joining with his Mercedes SLK and Jason Cooper bringing his National Hot Rod along as well as his Superstox. Gary Farrington from Worlingworth will be racing his new E36 BMW saloon at this meeting, this car replaces the Sierra which ended its days in a pile up at Hednesford Raceway last season. The BMW sees a step forward for the formula although Gary says that this will be very much regarded as a test session for the car, which at the time of writing is still being completed.
