Following a long and hard 2011, the 2.0 Hot Rod numbers were slightly down for the Winternationals event at Wimbledon on New Years Day.
The points from two reverse grid heats would determine the grid for the 2.0 Hot Rod Winternationals Final and these were won by two of the very best in 2.0 Hot Rods - World Champion 306 Will Reed and English Champion (and current Silver Roof) 304 Danny Fiske.
It was Fiske who took pole position following the heats having finished second in Heat One as well as winning the second race. However, on a very wet track, Fiske did not make the best of starts and while the conditions were not great the drivers all raced as hard as they would on a dry surface. Having gained two top 5 finishes in the heats, 72 Gary Goodswen found himself at the sharp end of the grid and took full advantage as the others tripped over each other to open up a sizeable lead. A yellow flag meant that every inch of an advantage that the 72 car had built up was now lost but as the other drivers closed in the former World Champion continued to drive smoothly and tick off the laps. 7 Collin Moss had driven well and found himself in second place to the 72 car as the chequered flag fell with 565 Daniel Smith in third.
