Spedeworth’s Jubilee Weekend Tour! - Added 30/5/2012

Jubilee Weekend is with us and Spedeworth Motorsports have four great meetings lined up, here then is a quick guide to help you arrange your schedule.

Sunday 3rd June at Aldershot with the usual 1pm start time sees a four formula line up, its round 5 of the Inchcape Ford Bracknell backed Track Championship - Paul Quinnell and Jimmy Morris look to be running away with this and both are booked in to try and make sure that situation stays the same. There are plenty who are going to try and stop them but they are going to have their work cut out if they are to achieve it, that could mean fireworks as Quinnell and Morris are going to have to be stopped if the chasing pack is going to get anywhere near taking the series honours. Junior Rods are back in town and what a show these youngsters put on! East Anglian fans are still buzzing from their visit to Yarmouth last month and the standard of car preparation is fantastic, just take a look at some of them in the pits then wait for the action on track! Heritage F2 Stock Cars make a welcome appearance at Aldershot for those of us remember how it was “back in the day” and this is proper racing. So who to watch? Keep an eye on Marty Page - he’s just as quick as he was 40 years ago making the trip down with fellow Ipswich racer Mike “Old Man” Walmsley. Watch Pete Welland too - a real old hand at this as he tries to uphold Southern honours, but my money is on Page especially if he goes in with the bumper like he usually does. Now, don’t adjust your computer, you are reading this right....7.5 Tonne Trucks will be gracing the raceway this weekend and if you want to show the Guv’nor how it should be done, (or if you just fancy getting your own back on him) the one and only Deane Wood is due to be racing a truck, Chris Hide and Tony Rudge are also booked, let the HGV mayhem begin!

Up the East Coast for the evening on Sunday to Great Yarmouth at 5.30, and it’s the 1300cc Stock Car English Championship which heads the bill, and this looks good! We are heading towards the magic 30 car mark for this, top drivers include local stars James and Barry Radcliffe, Adam O’Dell and Jason Scopes. Paul Anscombe makes the trip up to East Anglia determined this time to stay out of trouble and take the silverware home, all looks good? But wait..... it gets better, Daniel Wenn and Mark Whybra “The Norwich Bad Boy Pairing” have booked in and when those two turn up, especially when a championship is up for grabs anything could happen, and anything probably will, don’t look away for a second when that big race is on! It’s a Swedish massacre in the National Bangers! All Volvos including a FIGURE 8 RACE. We have a great local entry for this, Jonny Wilkinson, Matt Brown, Carl Gould and the ever present Barry Beevor join up with Michael Allard, is anyone who is NOT from Norfolk going to get a look in here? The local boys are going to make this “Fortress Yarmouth” can anyone stop them? Of all the classes we race at Caister the Rookie Rods always put on a great show and numbers are back on the increase and bookings for this one have now hit the 20 car mark, which round the tight Yarmouth oval is enough for both good racing and the inevitable action. The Southern drivers really are showing the Anglians the way this season, taking all the top places in the points so far, but the East Anglian fightback starts right here and one driver who will be keen to make his mark is Shaun Wegg, returning after a year out - Shaun is a welcome addition back to the Rookie Rod scene. Street Stocks are racing to make this a four formula line up, these are really starting to happen at Yarmouth and always provide plenty of contact action. The Nissan Almera seems to be the favoured car, but a few new cars are rumoured, either way the Street Stocks will entertain!

A nights sleep then back down to the South Coast to Eastbourne at 1pm on Monday and THIS LOOKS GOOD! National Banger under 1400cc 4 a side Team Racing.....with no less than 14 Teams booked in and the team names say it all.... The Dreamers and their adversaries The Dreambusters, Team Sowter and the Brighton Bears are always entertaining and of course this is Eastbourne so the Seasiders are there too! Team racing always brings out the best in the National Bangers and this one is going to be no exception. Staying with the contact 2.0 Stock Cars are on the bill for another round of the Wealden Services Series. Billy Wood is booked in, but where is his old sparring partner George Morphey? If Morphey is out of the way Wood will probably have it all his own way but if the East Anglian star is a late booking for this one then things will be very different as when they get stuck in to each other bumpers and fences get tested! If all this contact is too much then sit back and enjoy some bumper to bumper racing from the 2.0 Hot Rods, including the first appearance of the newly crowned National Champion Dale Atkins, who took a convincing win in a fantastic race at Great Yarmouth’s National Championship last Sunday. The World Champion Will Reed is booked along with leading East Anglian star Danny Fiske. Mark Willis had words with Fiske after the National Championship, there is definite friction between these two hard charging drivers, will there be more at Aldershot? Rick Pannell will be racing his immaculate new Corsa - he says it feels really different to his old Starlet but he is starting to feel at home with the car. Daniel Smith is always good value, and always turns out a lovely car, and he drives it hard too as does Brendon Smith who will be racing his NEC Show car. There is going to be no better day out than this on the South Coast, Eastbourne looks like your best destination South of the Thames.

Foxhall Stadium in Ipswich, with an earlier than usual 2pm start time on Monday sees a great 3 formula line up. Stock Rods race in a round of the Polleysport/Yokohama Series and Michael Madden has a slim lead which he will want to take home with him, but he’s got Lee Ribbans and World Champion Stuart Smyth right on his boot lid! This meeting is going to be hard work for the Norfolk star if he is going to hold onto that lead. Stock Rods love the wide open Foxhall Raceway and no one more than former World Champion Andy Sturt who won his title at Ipswich 2 years ago. An impressive 27 cars booked in (at time of writing) from the Superstox should set the heart racing and looking down the list all the expected top names will be at Foxhall on Monday for round 6 of the Safari Landrover Series. That list of names is led by World Champion Nick Smith along with Aylward, Eaton, Jackson, Cooper and Marjoram. In fact there are 7 Superstox World Champions racing at this meeting, and if Garry Sparkes can sort his Great Yarmouth engine woes out then we could make that 8! Shaun Brooker is at the top of his game right now, in fact he has won every Final at Great Yarmouth so far this year and no one would bet against him adding to that tally at Foxhall. It’s getting towards the vital crunch time for the Superstox with their World Final just a couple of months away now, every point counts. There are some smart machines out there in this class - why not arrive early and take a wander around the pits, the drivers are most approachable and the cars well worth a close look. It’s round 3 of the Peter Brown backed Ipswich Banger Championship and Kieron Murphy heads the way so far. Now, imagine you were leading can you think of two worse names to have right behind you than Lane and Allard?! Well, that’s just who Murphy has filling his rear view mirror and with Allard not booked in Laney will be ready to pounce on him to claim that top spot by teatime. What ever happens with the Bangers it will action aplenty and if the sun keeps shining there won’t be a better place to be in East Anglia than Foxhall Stadium!
