Keeping up with the Jones' - Added 19/6/12

On a very wet weekend at Lochgelly's Thunder Valley Raceway; it was brothers Murray and Todd Jones who took the two big championships back home to Surrey.

Just under 20 English Superstox made the long trip North of the border to do battle with the top drivers from Spedeworth Scotland and the 31 car grid made for an awesome site - despite the atrocious conditions!

With top Scottish driver Stuart Gilchrist on pole, many thought that the result would be a foregone conclusion - how wrong could they be?! At the drop of the green flag, a great battle ensued between 177 Gilchrist, 4 Liam Lambert and 7 Glenn Salmon. With no quarter asked and none given, these drivers swapped places regularly as many others struggled in the wet conditions.

186 Todd Jones had made good progress from his grid 11 start and was soon on the tail of the leading pack and took advantage as the other drivers fell by the wayside. 482 Jason Cooper was now in second and chasing 186 Jones hard.

Jones managed to maintain a healthy gap from Cooper and crossed the line to take an excellent win and the European Championship for 2012!

Sunday's weather was unfortunately no better than the Saturday - most of the protagonists from the previous evening returned to do battle once more and the Open Scottish Championship title was up for grabs!

276 Murray Jones made an excellent start to the race from grid position 10 and made quick work of overtaking those in front of him in a car that appeared much faster than it did the previous evening. 7 Glenn Salmon certainly enjoyed a good weekend and kept the 276 pilot honest as he tracked him in second place a few car lengths behind. Murray's most alarming moment came when overtaking Alex Meadows to lap the 176 driver but he maintained control of his car to take an emotional win - despite being spun by Meadows as he crossed the line. Salmon held on for second place and Murray's brother Todd (the new European Champion) brought his car home in third from the rear of the grid!

Both Murray and Tood Jones carried tributes to National Saloon driver Steve Newman and it was clear that both Murray and Todd had the bit between their teeth as they raced in memory of their departed friend and fellow racer.

Since their return to the formula, both Jones brothers have struggled to find form. The European Weekend at Lochgelly certainly announced to the world that the Jones boys are back and determined to take home as much silverware as possible!
