Oval Racing fans don’t wear out at all! There’s plenty of energy after last week’s Ipswich Spedeweekend for some more East Anglian action, so it’s off to Great Yarmouth we go with the usual 5.30 start time for a great 5 formula line up.
The local Rookie Rod drivers need to set the record straight by winning the East Anglian Championship. In this class there has always been a little East Anglia v The South rivalry and last year the Southern boys came up the A12 and they whipped the local boys, taking the silverware back down South. Determined not to see a repeat in 2012, the feature race should be a cracker! Shaun Wegg, Brad Hudson, John Woodhouse and Ryan Cannell will be doing their best to retain the title in Norfolk while Noel Whinney and his fellow Suffolk drivers would like it to end up just a few miles South. With two heats to qualify for the Final, its going be to be action all the way with the Rookie Rods, and as we know on the tight confines of the Caister Raceway with a title up for grabs that there will be action with a capital A!
The National Bangers are in town for Round 2 of the Peter Brown backed East Anglian Series. The new venture for Yarmouth sees all Banger meetings upgraded to u1600cc National Banger meetings which has already seen improved interest. Kieron Murphy is booked to race and that should ensure that he goes home one step higher than his current second place in the points. Paul Felgate, Ben Warner and Andy Hill are making the trip up to Yarmouth from the Ipswich area to join the East Coast regulars of Michael Allard, Andy Leonard and Lee Clarke. This is a 4 round Series taking in Great Yarmouth and Foxhall Raceway in Ipswich.
Junior Rods make a welcome return to East Anglia, last time out they put a great show on, feedback from the drivers after their first visit was good and this weekend they are back. Young pairing Mitch Souter and Tyler Wilkin are two to watch in their immaculate Saxos - they will be making the trip up from the South to race alongside local talent Jayden Brooker and Reece Legrice. These stars of the future don’t mess about either, they may be still at school but make no mistake this is proper motor racing. Staying with Rod Racing, and always a hit at Yarmouth the Classic Hot Rods are here to entertain us , so if the sight of “how it was back in the good old days” with Anglias, Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts and just a slight smell of Castrol R does it for you then there will be no better place to be on Sunday Evening. Street Stox make up the fifth formula racing and the action will come thick and fast with just a hint of rivalry between the local boys from Yarmouth and the lads from just along the A47 at Swaffham.
Make a day of it, hit the seafront during the day, then along to Caister in plenty of time for that 5.30 start, see you there!
