Ipswich 9/4 - Added 9/4/12

National Bangers

Heat 1 - 27 Dale Hughes, 294, 67, 204, 998, 757, 86, 842, 843, 78.

About 70 National Bangers here at Ipswich and a lively start with half cars and preliminary skirmishing between the warring factions of the Gladiators and the Cream Team! Dale Hughes wins it by almost a lap ahead of his brother Lee.

Heat 2 - 159 Darren Scarrow, 516, 247, 69, 432, 753, 456, 662, 540, 543.

The other half cars for heat 2 and a spectacular crash involving those warring factions with 539 Danny Allen almost ending up over the fence backwards!! 456 Nathan Roberts leads up to the last lap but mistimes a take out allowing Darren Scarrow through for the win.

Hurricane -27 Dale Hughes, 382 Jack Foster Jnr, 67 Rickie Beasley, 998, 204, 247, 432, 423, 180, 86.

60 cars on track for the feature race, cars spinning everywhere and it's 331 Jason Jackson who takes an early lead ahead of 247 Lee Clarke, there's a spectacular rollover for 307 Jon Joe Cunningham before the race is stopped for an injury to 662 Jamie Harding. He's out safe and we should be back under way soon! From the restart it's 331, 247, 27, 382 the first 4 with just short of 40 cars left. 331 goes missing on the scoreboard bend as he goes into a pile up, 382 Jack Foster Jnr takes over and looks good for a while but Dale Hughes finds a second wind and goes through to take it!! That's 4 years in a row now that one of the Hughes brothers has won the Hurricane, with Dale winning in 2009 and Lee in 2010 and 2011!!!!!

Allcomers - 998 Wayne Cotterill Jnr, 27, 86, 247, 516, 294, 67, 159, 432, 589.

39 cars on track for the Allcomers and amazingly not one single Cream Team driver so the Gladiators are looking lost! Long time leader 86 Alec Savage is reeled in and overtaken by 998 Cotty Jnr who takes the win, Dale Hughes just missing out on a hat-trick in 2nd, most of the Gladiators pull off mid-race presumably to save their cars for the DD!!

DD - 331 Jason Jackson from 367 Tom Keep

28 cars for the DD and plenty of crashing between the Cream Team and Gladiators, 717 and 843 excluded for too much on the shale leaving 331 Boxer Jack to take the win and end another quality event from the National Banger boys!!

2.0 Stock Cars

Heat 1 - 305 Billy Wood, 77, 41, 7, 122, 29, 454, 229, 79, 306.

20 2.0 Stock Cars on track in the Bank Holiday rain!! It's English Champion Billy Wood who copes best with the conditions and he storms to victory in race one!

Heat 2 - 305 Billy Wood, 33, 229, 41, 29, 7, 77, 532, 122, 635.

A lively race again in difficult conditions, 77 Steve Davies and 41 Joe Parker vying for the lead and go into the fence together leaving Billy Wood to pick up the pieces and take his second win of the day!

Final - 229 Robert George, 41 Joe Parker, 29 George Morphey, 305, 33, 532, 7, 486, 635, 306.

Robert George wins the Final with 29 George Morphey launching 305 on the last bend to pinch 3rd!!

2.0 Hot Rods

Heat 1 - 303 Gavin Botfield, 565, 475, 543, 75, 72, 8, 88, 304, 310.

Far from ideal conditions for the Hot Rods as they take to the Foxhall oval, they're here in good numbers again with 32 of them on track, 27 Joe Jackson and 475 Paul Kaynes take turns at leading, the wet track accounts for a few with 745 Daniel Bennett losing his rear bumper as a few cars spin out. 303 Gavin Botfield takes over but the waved yellows come out to check on a potentially injured driver, all OK though and they line up for the remaining 10 laps, and it's Botfield who races away to win though 96 Kevin Randell and 565 Dan Smith close up in the latter stages, 96 getting docked 2 places for contact.

Heat 2 - 11 Alex Crane, 745, 303, 65, 565, 304, 96, 22, 7, 24.

11 Alex Crane is the early leader ahead of 745 Daniel Bennett, these two opening up a big lead ahead of the chasing pack led by 96 and 303. The conditions are again taking their toll as we lose a number of cars to spins and minor knocks, and it's Alex Crane who takes a win after a faultless drive, 96 Kevin Randell looks good for 3rd but clips a parked car late on and goes out.

Final - 745 Daniel Bennett, 29 Duane Peacock, 310 Sean O'Leary, 72, 565, 75, 7, 27, 303, 88 (all subject to video review).

The 2.0 Hot Rod final sees Daniel Bennett away and clear, again we lose a few to the conditions - although the rain has cleared there's a lot of wet shale on the track! Randell spins out near the end when 4th after a clash with 303.
