Hello and a very warm welcome to coverage of tonight's racing from Arlington Stadium. The sun is out and it looks like a perfect evening of racing is ahead so why not join us?
The Bangers are back in the third round of their track championship sponsored by Racepixels, the Rookie Rods return and, on American Independence Day, we are joined by the miniature US styled Oval Track Legends who are here to compete for their Sussex Championship. With good numbers booked in for all three race classes; it promises to be a fun evening in the sunshine!
Following a vote on the Spedeworth Motorsports Facebook page, the in-car camera will be in Banger 535 Ryan Cunningham's car tonight.
For those unable to join us, stay up to date right here with Spedeworth Motorsports!
Rookie Rods
Heat One
342 Alistair O'Brien, 89, 174, 246, 113, 177, 427, 135, 144, 650.
In a race that saw two stoppages for incidents on laps 4 & 9 for stranded cars, Alistair O'Brien takes a fine win from the white grade as the drivers nearer the rear of the grid struggled to get on pace with the smart looking 342 Nova.
Heat Two
342 Alistair O'Brien, 246, 113, 135, 89, 121, 174, 650, 427, 28.
Former Banger racer O'Brien makes it two for two as he takes the win in the second heat for Rookie Rods. He managed to hold on despite a race stoppage for the stranded 177 machine to be rescued and actually increased his lead to secure a yellow grade start for tonight's final. Can he make it a hat-trick?
Final
246 Robbie Fincham, 342 Alistair O'Brien, 89 Gary Pope, 113, 121, 177, 174, 144, 135, 650.
A flag to flag victory for 246 Robbie Fincham stopped 342 O'Brien making it a hat trick as he could only finish second. Gary Pope took third in a race that rounded off another good night for the Rookie Rods.
Legends
Heat One
6 Ian Hales, 65, 151, 156, 60, 48, 272, 33, 161, 42.
Ian Hales showed ferocious pace to head the field by lap 11. Despite a stoppage on lap 16, Hales continued on his way to a dominant victory in the Yamaha engined class.
Heat Two
516 Paul Fiore, 156, 84, 151, 60, 6, 48, 161, 495, 65.
In a race brought to a halt one lap before the end for a stranded car, it was part-time Aldershot Raceway Steward Paul Fiore who took a fine win. Heat One winner Hales could only manage 6th on this one.
Sussex Championship
151 Chris Pye, 156 Peter Blundell, 43 Peter Elliott, 516, 60, 6, 48, 495, 161, 65.
If ever a race proved the old adage "it ain't over til it's over" this was it. 43 Peter Elliott led the race by over half a lap at one stage and must have been readying his victory speech until the last few laps where a rapid 151 Chris Pye caught and passed him,156 Peter Blundell also overtook the 43 machine who should still be pleased with a podium finish as a rookie driver.
The Legends provided some spectacular action and we thank them for making the long trip to race with us.
Bangers
Heat One
529 Keith Conlon, 50, 431, 791, 228, 250, 389, 417, 706, 271, NOF.
10 out of the original 30 starters finished - that certainly sums up a bruising race with several pile ups throughout the race. Cray Ingram performed a spectacular rollover near the conclusion of a race that saw 529 Keith Conlon take victory.
Heat Two
50 Mark Martin, 558, 529, 271, 228, 431, 450, 883, 417, NOF.
Mark Martin takes victory in the 50 machine after overhauling 1300 Stock Car Southern Champion Ryan Jordan who was making an appearance in the 783 rent a rookie. Once into the lead the 50 car pulled away to maintain a healthy lead to the chequered flag.
Final
558 Rob Haines, 417 Harvey Devall, 50 Mark Martin, 529, 271, 228, 450, 194, 883, NOF.
Rob Haines extends his track championship lead with victory in a bruising final. The race was stopped on lap 4 due to a stranded car. Haines made good progress through the traffic to get into the lead. 194 Anscombe was in the thick all evening and managed to take out a number of cars on his way to 8th place. Another cracking session for the Bangers! ![](siteimages/mylapslogo.jpg)
